ALDIS / BLIDS – Lightning Detection and Information
ALDIS (Austrian Lightning Detection and Information System) is a joint project of OVE Austrian Electrotechnical Association and Austrian Power Grid AG, dedicated to real-time monitoring and documentation of lightning activity in Central Europe.
ALDIS provides highly accurate lightning data to meteorological services, power utilities, insurance companies, and experts. In addition, ALDIS is an internationally recognized research institution in the field of lightning detection, with its findings regularly published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
ALDIS is a member of EUCLID (EUropean Cooperation for LIghtning Detection), a collaboration of several national lightning detection systems forming a Europe-wide network.
The BLIDS (BLitz Informations DienSt – Lightning Information Service) was operated by SIEMENS Germany for decades and was taken over by ALDIS in October 2023. Due to the long-standing cooperation between ALDIS and BLIDS, the integration ensures that both historical and current lightning data remain fully available.
